VST3 ZIP

For using Meter inside Ableton Live or another Windows x64 VST3 host. This download contains the plugin, licence, third-party notices and offline instructions. It does not include the standalone app.

Meter opens as Free unless you already have a valid paid licence. Free needs no activation key. Read the included licence and third-party notices before use.

Install the VST3 from the ZIP

  1. Close your DAW.

Quit Ableton Live or any other DAW that has Meter loaded before copying or replacing the plugin.

  2. Extract the download.

In Windows File Explorer, right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. Open the extracted folder; do not load Meter from inside the ZIP.

  3. Copy the whole DJL folder.

Copy the extracted DJL folder into the shared VST3 folder below. Create the VST3 folder if it does not exist. Windows may request administrator permission.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

The installed plugin file should be:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\DJL\Meter\DJL Meter.vst3
  4. Keep the supplied file structure.

For this Meter download, DJL Meter.vst3 is a single file. Keep its name unchanged. Do not create a folder named DJL Meter.vst3, a Contents folder or an x86_64-win folder.

  5. Reopen and rescan.

Start your DAW and rescan VST3 plugins. If you use Ableton Live, continue with the steps below.

No administrator access? Use a custom VST3 folder.

In Ableton Live you can use a dedicated folder in your user account, for example:

C:\Users\YOUR-NAME\Documents\VST3\DJL\Meter\DJL Meter.vst3

Enable Use VST3 Plug-In Custom Folder and select the VST3 root—in this example, C:\Users\YOUR-NAME\Documents\VST3—then rescan. If a custom folder is already configured, use that existing root. Other DAWs may require the standard shared location.

Keep only one Meter copy in folders scanned by your DAW to avoid duplicate versions.

Using the installer instead

  1. Close Meter and your DAW.

Download and open the standalone/VST3 installer from this site.

  2. Choose your components.

Select VST3, Standalone, or both. Review the licence and the folders shown by Setup. The standalone app location is separate from the VST3 root; Setup adds DJL\Meter below your chosen VST3 root.

  3. Open Meter.

For the standalone app, use its installed shortcut and select an audio input. For the VST3, reopen your DAW and rescan its configured VST3 folder.

These early-access downloads are unsigned while publisher signing is pending. Windows, your browser or organisational policies may restrict them. Download only from the publisher’s verified links; do not disable security software to install Meter. The ZIP includes a SHA256 manifest for integrity checks.

Set up Ableton Live

  1. Enable the plugin folder.

Open Settings/Preferences → Plug-Ins. For the shared installation location, turn Use VST3 Plug-In System Folders on. If you installed to a custom folder, enable and select that root instead.

  2. Rescan.

Click Rescan and allow scanning to finish. Open Plug-Ins in Live’s browser and search for DJL Meter.

  3. Add Meter to your session.

Drag it onto an audio track, group, or Main/master track. Meter is an audio effect, not a MIDI instrument. Start playback to see the readings.

  4. Measure the passage you want.

For a complete mix check, place Meter after the processing you want to measure. Click Reset before playing your chosen passage or full song.

Keep the readings in view

The VST3 header and Setup menu offer Companion window: an independent, always-on-top display for the same insert while you select other tracks.

It hands over from the original floating host window where that window can be identified safely. Unticking or closing Companion restores the original if it still exists. Docked or unrecognised host windows are left visible; actual host behaviour can vary.

If Meter does not appear

  • Confirm your DAW supports Windows x64 VST3. This download is not for macOS, phones, tablets or 32-bit-only hosts.
  • Check the ZIP is fully extracted and the single DJL Meter.vst3 file is in the exact folder your DAW scans.
  • In Live, hold Alt while clicking Rescan to request a deeper scan.
  • Check your DAW’s blocked-plugin list if available, and remove duplicate or obsolete Meter copies from scanned folders.

Updating or removing Meter

Back up your projects and close the DAW before replacing the old VST3 file. Remove obsolete copies from other scanned locations, reopen the DAW and rescan.

To remove a manual ZIP installation, close the DAW and remove the copied Meter plugin file. To remove an installer-based installation, use its uninstaller. Leave other DJL products in place; personal licence data is stored separately.

Paid editions and activation

One installation supports Free, Meter and Pro. A paid licence covers one named user and two active installations. Public activation and Shopify checkout are not live yet. When available, use Setup → Licence → Activate online and enter your purchase email and activation key in the browser. Free requires no key.
